Know Who We Are – The Heart Behind Janjagruti Vidyarthi Sangh (JVS)
Janjagruti Vidyarthi Sangh (JVS) was born in 1997 out of a simple yet powerful belief – every community deserves dignity, opportunity, and a voice.
What started as a small group of determined youth in Mankhurd’s underserved slum communities has now grown into a strong and dependable grassroots organization serving thousands across Chikuwadi, Mandala, Mankhurd, Govandi, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, and Mulund dumping-ground communities in Mumbai.
These areas were once dark-listed due to the lack of basic amenities. Government support was minimal, and people were left to struggle alone. But within this struggle, a spark of hope emerged.
A group of committed students and community members – despite receiving no support from society or the system – chose not to give up. Their determination to fight for education, health, basic rights, and dignity laid the foundation of JVS.
In October 1997, this spirit took shape formally as ‘Janjagruti Vidyarthi Sangh’, registered under the Society Registration Act 1860 and Trust Act 1950.
