Activities
Now we are running the programs as per community needs with the help of BCPT, Larsen & Toubro, Ammada Trust & Balwadis in various areas of Mumbai with the collaboration of Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika (BMC).
We are running Library, Study Classes and Recreation unit in Chikuwadi, Mankhurd, Mumbai with the help of BCPT, Mumbai. As well as BCPT provides Sponsorship to our Students who gets more than 84% in SSC and HSC.
Conducting Computer / Tailoring / Beauty parlour classes in Chikuwadi with the help of Larsen and Tourbro, Mumbai.
Providing Tailoring Machines, Medical help, and educational supports etc.to poor and needy people in the collaboration with Ammada Trust. Ammada trust support to Rag pickers who were working on Mulund Dumping ground, to collect plastic bags, and wastage material and various other material and tried to clean dumping. Ammada trust provide them, investment to start own business and sustain their own life. This year Ammada trust supported to 23 families to start Patato stall, Vada pav Stall, Tailoring machines, Katta business and General stalls.
We work with Rag pickers in Mulund and Deonar Dumping ground. We have 156 members in our Association call “Sahara Kachara Vechak Sangh”. We have 6 saving groups of Rag pickers at Mulund Dumping ground.
We have Conducted & Completed Minority Survey in M-Ward & L-Ward of Mumbai in collaboration with All India Institute of Local Self Government, Mumbai in March 2012.
Today, JVS’s register office is in Mankhurd. Its working committee comprises of 11 members, all belonging to the same community. JVS functions in association with Apli Mumbai, Ghar Banavo Gahr Bachao Andolan, NAPM, Shahar Vikas Manch, Bandhakamagar Majdoor Sanghatan, Mahanagar Palika Prabahg Sameeti, Ratining Kruti Sameeti, Bal Haq Sameeti.
Partnership and participation is the key to all of JVS’s activities. From identification of problems, to planning and execution of projects, local people are involved at every stage. Most of the volunteers as well as participants of various programs are the local person. Hence they are quite aware of the local problems. JVS gets good support from the local people, which is beneficial for the project.
JVS’s programmes are carried out by over 13 trained and dedicated community based staff. The staff members work hand in hand with 2 professional social workers, under the guidance of Mrs. Geeta Surve, the Coordinator and Mr. Santosh Surve, the president of JVS and the Executive Committee. Besides this, JVS also has local volunteers who provide their valuable help whenever required.
